MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to promote professionalism and to facilitate the opportunity to provide training, networking and better communication for all Financial Workers and Case Aides in order to deliver human service programs effectively within Minnesota.

From our President

Hello all!  I hope you are enjoying the hot weather and spending time with your families! Conference is just around the corner and we have a lot of information in this newsletter for you.  We are very excited to be back at Arrowwood this year and have great sessions and awesome entertainment scheduled.  To attend the conference, you will need to complete a 2016 registration form, hotel registration form, tentative session list and menu.

Please remember that this is an all-inclusive conference so there is only one rate – which includes all meals, snacks and all other costs associated with conference. You will need to complete the conference registration form, and send it to the MFWCAA address in Glenwood, and the hotel registration form which needs to be returned to Arrowwood. If you have any questions about conference or registering, please feel free to contact me.

Enjoy the rest of your summer.  We hope to see you at conference this year!

welcome

Regions 10 & 11 have new representatives!  Join us in welcoming them!

Hello, my name is Kathy Jordan and I am the new Region 10 Rep.  I started in Dodge County DHS on December 12, 2011 as Office Support.  A year later I became an Eligibility Worker with our Family Bank, and now work mainly in METS.  Dodge County combined with Steele and Waseca Counties to form MNPrairie County Alliance, so I’ve been through a few changes.  I have a hard time saying ‘no,’ which is how I came about being a Region Rep!  I’m also involved in our insurance, wellness and social committees.  I love my clients, coworkers and this job in general.  I’m excited to be a part of the MFWCAA board!

Hi!  I’m Jessica McArthur and I’m the new Region 11 Rep.  I’ve been a Financial Worker for 3 years in Anoka County.  I specialize in MNsure and absolutely love it.  I have a four year old son named Ryan, and we spend our time gardening and playing outside as much as we can.  I have been going to the MFWCAA conference for the past two years, and am so excited to be a part of the committee!

Other region stuff…

Thanks to Benton County for hosting the Region 7 meeting in April!

Todd County is hosting a Region 5 meeting on July 21.  Hope to see you there!

gradscholarship news

MFWCAA is pleased to announce these 8 students with $500 Scholarships:

  • Cassandra Smith (Parent: Kathleen Nauber)
  • Payton Larson (Parent: Kim Larson)
  • Hunter Syverson (Parent: Valerie Syverson)
  • Travis Schmidt (Parent: April Schmidt)
  • Ashley Tolifson (Parent: Beth Tolifson)
  • Summer Eggen (Parent: Aimee Eggen)
  • Susanne Desmond (MFWCAA member)
  • Kasey Montag (MFWCAA member)

We had 12 applicants this year and we were able to award 8 scholarships!  Thank you to all who participated in the scholarship fundraiser.  Without your continued support, we would not be able to have this wonderful program.  Last year we had 34 baskets and raised $4,993!  The baskets from last year were top notch and are always creative!  Our goal each year is to increase the number of baskets to raffle and to increase our raffle sales.  Please continue to work together with your coworkers to bring that most desired basket to conference.  Just like in the past, we will have prizes for scholarship baskets.  You can use your prize money toward your next basket!

As always, raffle tickets will be $1 each and will be sold at the MFWCAA table in the vendor area on Wednesday and Thursday.  Sales end Thursday at 3:00 PM.  Drawings for the basket winners will be held after the business meeting on Friday, October 14.  If you are not able to be present for the drawing, please leave your ticket with someone who will be able to claim your basket if you win.  Thanks again for all your support and we look forward to seeing all your creative baskets at conference this fall!

board meeting

What do Region Reps/Board Members do?

Region Representatives are primarily responsible for promoting membership in MFWCAA within their region, conducting membership drives, hosting regional meetings throughout the year and providing members with updates on legislation, policy and other critical issues that affect our job.

Board meetings, comprised of Region Reps, Board Members and DHS staff, meet once a month in St Cloud. This provides the opportunity for each Region Rep to update others on training and technical assistance, be notified of policy and procedure changes and to coordinate the conference planning. Voting occurs, minutes are taken and bi-laws are followed.

Region Representatives participate in committees that are devoted to preparing and planning for a statewide conference, which is held every fall. Committees focus on keynote speakers, workshop presenters, vendors, logistics and other planning. The annual conference is a great chance to network and attend sessions and workshops that provide exceptional learning opportunities. Representatives are required to attend and assist with the conference every year.
